New Students FAQs
I have never practised Yoga before, can I still practice at Phoenix Yoga?
Yes. Anybody can practice at Phoenix Yoga. Classes are suitable for the beginner with no experience while at the same time offering challenges to the most advanced practitioner.
As a beginner, which classes can I attend on the schedule?
As a yoga beginner, you can attend all classes on the schedule, in fact, we encourage you to practice with as many different teachers and styles as possible to become familiar with what yoga is and how it is taught at Phoenix Yoga.
I want to come to my first class, do I need to book?
No, there is no need to book. Come in about 15 min before the class starts, register and meet the teacher. It is nice to be able to relax before class. Alternatively, if you prefer, you can sign up and purchase an intro pass online to save time on your first visit.
What do I bring and wear to class?
If you have a mat and towel, bring those with you, we do sell and hire these if you do not have your own. If you would like to take advantage of our facilities after class and take a shower, you might like to bring a second towel. Bring a bottle of water and wear whatever you feel comfortable in, it’s your first visit. Try not to wear anything too loose, dress for hot conditions, ladies, shorts or licra 3/4 gym tights, singlet or sports top. Men wear shorts with or without a singlet.
How long do classes go for?
Class time lengths range from 60min – 90min.
- Inferno Hot Pilates 45 and 55min
- Vinyasa classes 75min
- Yin classes 75min
- Bikram classes are 60 and 90min
Should I eat or drink before class?
Be well-hydrated before class, at the same time, try not to drink too much water just before class. Do not eat for 2 hours before class.
What to expect from your first class?
Like the first time you went to the gym, an aerobics class or even for a run. You will feel a little challenged because it is new and unfamiliar. Don’t worry or stress yourself out! You will need to acclimate to the temperatures and become familiar with our practice postures. Take it easy, take a break, sit a posture out. It is not unusual to feel a little overwhelmed during your first class. You don’t need to understand everything on your first day. It is best that you take your time, breathe, use your introductory pass, and come back as often as you can.
After class you will feel amazing. You feel lighter, free of care and energised. Remember to drink plenty of fluids after class to rehydrate.
When does the studio open?
Phoenix Yoga opens 30min before the scheduled class time and closes 30min after the completion of the class.
Where do I park?
On-street parking, please arrive early to locate your parking space.
